It can be difficult to determine how much you will eat when cooking. This is especially true if you cook for others. You’ll be eating leftovers if you think too much is better than too little. This is a good thing, provided you know which foods should not be reheated.
Potatoes
Did you ever notice how awful cooked potatoes taste the next morning, You might not have, but you could reheat them in a skillet or add them to other dishes, and they would taste just as good. You won’t ever want to eat leftover potato chips again after you’ve tried them once.
It’s not only the taste that should discourage you from reheating this staple meal. When cooked potatoes are left at room temperature for too many hours, bacteria known as Clostridium botulinum can form. Consuming food contaminated with this bacteria could lead to death.
Rice
The same applies to rice, another common ingredient in dinner. You can safely heat cooked rice leftovers in the refrigerator once they have cooled down a little. If you leave the meal on the counter for too much time, the bacteria Bacillus Cereus will likely start growing.
Seafood
Fresh seafood tastes better than frozen. However, it may be safer to purchase frozen seafood because food safety authorities closely monitor the preservation process.
What if there is too much food to eat? Please put it back in the fridge once it has cooled down a little.
Spinach
If improperly prepared, even the most healthy of foods can be poisonous. Spinach is delicious when it’s raw and extremely nutritious. It can be used as a side dish or as a sauce when lightly fried in oil.
Do not repeat the process if you have already exposed it to heat. You can either make a salad with the leftovers or eat it. The high amount of nitrates in spinach can cause them to become nitrosamines. Most types of these toxins are carcinogenic.
Beetroot
Beet-based dishes should also be avoided from being reheated. This is the same as for spinach.
You can put the beetroot stew in the oven, microwave it, or heat it again, but you risk getting a lot of toxic chemicals instead of the wonderful benefits.
Celery
This delicious veggie tastes best when it is fresh and raw. This is the best way to enjoy it, as it retains all of its nutrients. If you have to cook it, make sure you eat it immediately.
Mushrooms
While some mushrooms, like the white or brown button, can be safely eaten raw, most others should be cooked. You don’t want them to be heated in the microwave for more than a day. It is best to refrigerate the food as soon as possible after being cooked.
It would help if you stored mushrooms properly to avoid bacteria and enzymes that can form at room temperature. This can lead to upset stomachs.
