Our latest obsession is a delicious, tart, and sweet smoothie that instantly transports you back to summer or vacation mode. The smoothie tastes exactly like lemonade but in GREEN.
This naturally sweetened, plant-based smoothie is potassium-rich and loaded with vegetables. It also sneaks in Superfoods such as baobabs, moringas, and spirulina. Ten minutes and ten ingredients are all you need. We’ll show you exactly how to do it!
Our Ginger Colada Green Blend inspired this smoothie. The base is the ultimate creamy, tart, tropical combo of frozen banana and pineapple.
Coconut milk adds richness and creaminess, while lemon or lime and greens transform it into a green lemonade.
Coconut water is sweetened with natural sugars and potassium. It turns electric green when superfood powders like moringa or spirulina are added!
We chose three superfood powders that are rich in nutrients: moringa, spirulina, and baobab.
Baobab is a tropical fruit from Africa. Baobab powder is made from the dried pulp of the fruit, which dries on its own. It is rich in vitamin C and prebiotic fiber that helps support digestive health. ( Source).
Moringa, also known as the “miracle tree” or “the most nutrient-rich plant ever discovered,” is a popular choice for health-conscious consumers. You can read our review and learn about its benefits.
Spirulina, a blue-green alga, is rich in B vitamins, beta-carotene, and antioxidants. It also contains minerals such as iron, manganese, and iodine. It is also 60% protein. A complete protein, it contains all essential amino acids. One Tablespoon has 4 g of protein. (Source).
Superfood powders aren’t much for flavor, but they give this smoothie a gorgeous electric green color as well as an extra boost of nutrition.
Ingredients
- Small frozen banana
- 2 1/2 cups frozen pineapple
- 1-inch knob ginger (peeling optional)
- Juice 1 medium lemon or lime (3 Tbsp as written in the recipe)
- One small handful of fresh spinach
- 1/4 cup coconut water or sub-filtered water
- Use 1/2 cup coconut milk in a box (best // you can also use other dairy-free alternatives such as rice, hemp, or oat milk).
- 1 tsp Baobab powder
- 1 tsp moringa powder
- 1 tsp barley grass, chlorella, or spirulina juice powder
- 1 Tbsp hemp seeds (optional)
- Use 1/2 to 1 cup of water to thin or help blend
Instructions
- Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth. As needed, add more water to help the blending process. Pourable, but not watery. It should have a mixture of creamy and slightly slushie.
- Add more pineapple, banana, or lime to the taste if you want it creamier, tarter, or zingy.
- Enjoy the dish as it is, or add hemp seeds, a pineapple wedge, and a drizzle of honey (optional).
- Fresh is best. You can freeze leftovers into popsicles and ice cubes. Blend the smoothie ice in your blender along with coconut milk and more coconut water when ready to use.
