Rum Ball Recipe

Rum Balls are an iconic Christmas dessert. Chocolatey, rich and boozy, keep these delicious treats in the fridge for a few days for a more delightful taste!

Ohio needs clarification about the weather at present. It was sunny and nearly 50 degrees today, which is disappointing considering the holiday season is only four days away. Last year, we were anticipating a significant winter storm at this time.

What’s the matter? I’m all in favor of a white Christmas.

Despite the hot and sunny weather, we’re completing the items on our baking list one at a.

I’ve got everything you need to make peanut butter blossoms, gingerbread cookies, snowballs, saltine toffee, peanut Brittle, and Rum balls.

WHAT ARE RUM BALLS

I was at least 30 years old when I could have a gumball.

Can you believe it? They’re a holiday tradition, but I only got the memo for 30 years.

However, I’m happy that I’ve realized what it was all about, as these little guys are worth the effort.

Rum balls look a lot like tortoise cookie balls and peppermint Oreo cookies. They’re just…boozier.

Rum balls are small homemade confections made from vanilla cookies, pecans, confectioners’ sugar, cocoa, and spiced Rum.

They taste like spiced Rum. Keep the thought in the back of your mind. If Rum isn’t your preferred, try making them using Bourbon instead.

Do not worry about being drunk after drinking Rum balls. Since there are just 4 ounces of liquor within the whole batch, you’ll need to consume many!

If you don’t like booze, try the easy no-bake cookies and my simple truffles made from scratch for easy, no-bake holiday presents.

HOW TO MAKE RUM BALLS

Rum balls are straightforward to make. They’re an excellent option when you need a treat to give away but aren’t ready to fire up the oven!

Take a big dish to blend everything, along with a silicone spatula or a solid wooden spoon.

There’s also the have to crush a few vanilla wafers. You can use the food processor, place the cookies in the ziptop bag, seal it, then employ a rolling pin to smash the cookie.

Pour the vanilla wafers crushed into the bowl, then add the remaining dry ingredients, ensuring they are evenly distributed.

Pour in your vanilla syrup, corn syrup, and Rum. Stir thoroughly to integrate the ingredients, ensuring no dry particles fully.

To ensure they’re sufficiently wet, scoop some of the mixtures and roll them into the shape of a ball with your hands. You’re all set to move if it can remain like a ball!

Incorporate small amounts of crushed wafers or more according to the amount required to achieve that perfect consistency.

Utilize a cookie scooper to form the mixture into 1-inch balls. Throw them into a bowl that is filled with your preferred coating.

RUM BALL VARIATIONS

Where can you put your rum balls?

It is possible to make cocoa powder or powdered sugar (confectioners sugar), sprinkles, crushed nuts, shredded nuts, or whatever else you like — all of them are tasty.

Keep in mind that you can make more of everything, too! This recipe yields around 20 large rum balls; therefore, mixing up the toppings is a lot of enjoyable.

If you make them into a ball of powdered sugar, bear on your toes that you might need to roll them again just before serving because they can absorb some of the sugar as they sit in the fridge.

You can also alter the taste in your balls of Rum by testing various rum flavors. Instead of Rum with spices, Try:

Dark Rum

Coconut rum

White Rum

Vanilla rum

Bourbon

Vanilla wafer cookies out of the oven? There’s no problem! You can make rum balls using different kinds of crushed cookies, such as graham crackers or butter cookies.

STORAGE TIPS

This is the most fantastic thing about this dish: they taste better when prepared ahead of time and will last for years in the refrigerator.

Ok, maybe only for a while. However, they’ll last for quite a time!

Like the fruitcake cookies, rum balls are better after having some time to rest and develop their flavor.

Please put them in an airtight container, then stick them in the refrigerator for at least two days or up to several weeks.

It is not necessary to store the rum balls in the fridge so long as you keep them in a dry, cool area, but I’ve found they have the best taste and last longer when stored at a cold temperature.

I keep mine cool and stored inside a tin filled with wax papers to ensure they’re prepared if an unexpected visitor comes to visit.

When will you require your ball of Rum? You can freeze them to store them longer! Rum balls can be frozen for up two months.

I recommend packing them using the least amount of air possible. If you own an air sealer, it is ideal.

It is also possible to put them in a zip-top freezer bag and remove any air before sealing. This will help keep your rum balls fresh and tasty!

To defrost them, remove frozen items from your freezer and put them on the counter until they’re soft enough to chew.

This is a fantastic recipe that you can make ahead for your holiday gatherings for gift-giving, parties, or desserts.

Ingredients

3 cups vanilla wafers crushed

3/4 cup confectioners’ sugar

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

One 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans

One teaspoon of pure vanilla extract

Three tablespoons of light corn syrup

1/2 cup rum spiced

Instructions

In a large bowl, mix with the vanilla wafers crushed along with 3/4 cup confectioners sugar, cocoa, and nuts. Serve with vanilla corn syrup, Rum, and corn syrup.

Scoop into 1-inch balls or more extensive. I used four teaspoons of chocolate mixture per ball. This is equivalent to 2 scoops of the level using the small OXO Cookie scoop.

Roll the Rum Balls in confectioners like cocoa, sugar sprinkles, or anything that strikes your taste. Store them in an airtight jar in the fridge for a few days to enhance the flavor.
