How to make a mango smoothie precisely like the HKG version.

Mango is one of my favorite fruits.
Mangos can be so delicious, sweet, and juicy. There have been days when my dinner consisted of just me eating mangos. You know what? I eat cold mango cubes. Mangoes are a great way to recall Asia. I still remember the mango sticky rice desserts from Thailand that I ate. I was obsessed with the mango smoothie at Hui Lau Shan in Hong Kong.
Hui Lau Shan is a famous dessert shop in Hong Kong. Hui Lau Shan is an HK institution with several dessert shops that offer mango drinks and other desserts. They are trendy and have many stores around the globe, including in LA. They are the most adorable mango mascots and make the best mango drinks. A mango drink is refreshing and cooling in hot, humid weather (and any other weather).
Mango is the lifeblood of your body.
There are more than 500 types of mangos. Alphonso mangos, the world-famous Alphonso mangos, are often considered to be the best. However, they are not available outside India and have a short season. Carabao mango is my favorite mango and the most readily available. It is bright orange, sweet, and not too fibrous.
How to cut a mango
There are many ways to cut and peel a mango. These are the two I use:
- The vegetable peeler
- A vegetable peeler is all you need to peel a mango. You can peel the mango as you would a carrot. Then, place the mango on the cutting board tall ways. To avoid the pit, carefully use a knife to remove half the mango. Then, turn the mango over and use a pair of cutters to remove any excess from the pit. As you like, dice the mango.
- Hedgehog method
- Hedgehog is another way to peel mangos: Hold the mango high on a cutting board. To avoid the pit, use a knife to cut off a lobe from the mango. Repeat the process on the opposite side. Use a pairing knife to make a grid in the mango halves. Be careful not to damage the skin. Turn the mango upside down, so the cubes poke out. Then carefully slice the cubes. You could also use a spoon to scoop everything out.
Do you want a ripe mango?
It doesn’t matter what color you choose for a mango. You want firm, smooth skin with just a little bit of stretch. This is what you would expect from a peach or avocado. If it smells sweet and fragrant, it is ready to be used.
Mango Calories
Mango is delicious, but it has very few calories. A mango averages only 202 calories
Mango smoothie in HK style
I love Hui Lau Shan so profoundly that I have made a Mango Mania Hui Lau Shan replica drink. My absolute favorite Hui Lau Shan A1: mango & mango jelly in mango juice. This is triple mango. Mangos are a summer staple in the grocery store, and I have been buying them like crazy.
This mango smoothie is everything you want in a mango smoothie. It is sweet, juicy, and creamy with fresh mango jelly cubes. It’s so refreshing. Although it takes time and foresight, I promise it is worth it.
Frozen Mango
This recipe requires frozen mango cubes. These are readily available online. Fresh mangos are sweeter than frozen ones, so I cut, cube, and freeze them for this smoothie. The process takes approximately 4 hours in our freezer, so you can make the jelly before making the smoothie and still have everything ready. Make sure to keep some mango slices for garnish!
Mango juice & mango puree
What is the difference between mango juice and mango puree? It is simply a matter of thickness. Mango juice tends to be thinner than mango puree, while mango puree tends to be thicker. I prefer to make mango puree from mango juice.
Mango juice can be found in most grocery stores. It is usually called mango nectar. It’s mango, sugar, and some stabilizers. SunTropics, Jumex, and Goya are all excellent options. It is essential to choose pure mango juice and not a blend.
Making my mango puree is a favorite way to go. I blend fresh mangos. You need to peel and chop your mangos, then put them in a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. Mangos are very juicy and won’t need any liquid in your blender or food process. Mango puree is available in frozen form at some specialty food stores. However, it is much easier to make your own.
