Fig Jam Recipe

This delicious fig jam is very easy to cook at home! It’s the perfect complement to cheeses and bread and tastes fantastic. With just a handful of ingredients, it’s easy to prepare.

I purchase any fruit that is in season in large quantities. I love fresh berries, fresh mangoes; you name it! I typically make jam from it because I have a lot, and it always turns out fantastic! Jam that you make yourself is simply delicious. When I was given fresh figs last week, I knew that jam would be on my list of things to do.

One of the things that I like the most about this jam is its distinctive, earthy flavor. It’s a great accompaniment to a cheese platter, or place it on a piece of toast for a tasty bite!

How to make your jam from figs

The jam will need to simmer for a while at a low temperature. It can take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, based on the temperature and quantity of liquid required to evaporate. So take your time.

In a medium saucepan, add all the ingredients (if you want to add vanilla, make sure to add both seeds and pods) and simmer until the sugar melts and stirs frequently.

Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook the mix covered and frequently stirring for 30-60 minutes or until the mixture is thick, sticky, and falls in a torrent off the spoon.

Remove from the heat and dispose of the cinnamon stick and vanilla pod.

To preserve: Spoon warm jam into containers leaving 1/4 inch of space at the top. Close with lids. Cool to ambient temperature before refrigerating. The hole can be stored in the fridge for up to two months.

NOTE: For a dense jam, lightly mash big pieces of figs using a fork, potato masher, or potato. For a more smooth backup, make sure to process it in a food processor.

How do I know what time the fig jam has cooked

In general, the texture has to be thick, and then pour off a spoon into a stream and not drizzle by drip. It will become apparent when it begins to become thicker. There are two methods to test your jam’s quality:

  1. Utilize a thermometer to check the temperature. If it’s higher than 220degF, the test is completed.
  2. Place the jam on a plate, and place it into the freezer to set for two minutes. After that, you can run your finger over it. It is done if the indentation remains intact after the jam has been cooled.

Do I have the ability to flavor my jam

Adding flavorings to the jam, such as cinnamon or vanilla, is possible. You could substitute part of the sugar by using honey to add a more fabulous flavor but only cover a little as the honey could easily overwhelm the delicate fruity flavor. I recommend beginning with 1/4 cup of love rather than 1 cup of sugar.

How can jam be appropriately stored

It is possible to store the jam for up to 3 years in the fridge. If you’d like to preserve it for longer, first sterilize your lids and jars (10 to 15 minutes boiling in water is likely to suffice). Clean the rims thoroughly and fill the jars with jam, leaving 1/4 to 1/8 inch of space. Seal the jars by using lids. Then, place the jars into a water bath, a large pot with a rack at the bottom filled with boiling water, sufficient to fill the jars to about 1 inch. Place the jars into the water bath for five minutes. Keep the jam in an excellent, dark location until it is ready to use. The spot will stay fresh for at least one year. After you have opened the hole, put it in the refrigerator.

Ingredients

2 pounds of figs which have been cut stems and into pieces of 1/2-inch (about 4 cups of sliced figs)

1 1/2 cups (300g) Sugar granulated

1/4 cup (60 milliliters) water

1/4 cup (60 milliliters) lemon juice

A pinch of salt

1 Vanilla bean cut in half with seeds (optional)

1. Cinnamon stick (optional)

Instructions

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine all the ingredients (if you want to add vanilla, include the seeds and pods) and heat until sugar is dissolved and stirs frequently. Reduce the heat to a low setting and cook the mixture covered and stirring frequently for 30-60 hours or till the mixture is sticky and thick and falls heavily off the spoon (refer to the previous post for more ways to test whether the recipe is done). Remove from heat and dispose of the cinnamon stick and vanilla pod. If you want a thick jam, make small pieces of figs using the help of a potato masher or fork. For a more smooth hole, blend in the food processor. Pour jam into jars, leaving 1/4 inch of space, and seal the lid. Allow to cool to ambient temperature and then chill. Keep the mess at room temperature for up to two months.
