I will choose crepes over pancakes in the battle of crepes vs. pancakes. Why? Because they can be made with any combination of sweet and savory fillings. Their thin texture also means that I can eat more without feeling stuffed. While a stack of fluffy pancakes is a great option, crepes are my favorite. Do you need more convincing?
What’s the difference between CREPES and PANCAKES?
Cake crepes are made from a simple batter of flour, eggs and milk. Crepes are different from pancakes in that the batter contains different ingredients, resulting in different pancake textures. Crepes can be filled, folded, or rolled easily because they are thin and flexible. They are delicious with sweet and savory flavors. American pancakes are thicker, more fluffy, and much more cake-like.
MAKE SWEET OR SAVORY CREPES
This basic crepe recipe is neutral in flavor. It can be used with sweet or savory fillings. You can make your crepes sweeter and more dessert-like by adding 1 Tbsp granulated sugar and 1/2 tsp vanilla extract to the batter.
CREPE FILLINGS
Crepes are fun because you can fill them with different ingredients. You can search your pantry and fridge for any leftovers and create flavor combinations or use one of these fillings for crepes.
- Jam and yogurt
- Ham and cheese
- Lemon curd with whipped cream
- Nutella and berries
- Spinach, goat cheese or Swiss
- Sweetened ricotta with berries
- Peanut butter and banana
- Egg and cheese
- Strawberry and chocolate
- Apples and cinnamon
FOLD YOUR CREPES OR ROLL THEM
- After choosing the fillings you want, you can either roll or fold the fillings into the crepe. Fold the crepes by covering half the crepe with toppings. Then fold the crepe in half and close the fold. Place your toppings in the middle of the crepe or slightly on one side. Fold one side over the other and roll it to the opposite side.
HOW TO STORE LEFTOVER CREEPS
- If you have any leftovers, You can store leftover crepes in the refrigerator for later use or freeze them to extend their storage. Refrigerated crepes can be kept for up to 4-5 days in a gallon-sized zip-top bag or another air-tight food storage container. For best results, freeze crepes by placing a piece of parchment between them. This will prevent them from sticking together.
