Do you crave BBQ but don’t have a barbecue pit? Easy BBQ Chicken Sandwiches take only 30 minutes to prepare and only cost a few dollars per piece. This makes them an affordable, tasty, and quick way to satisfy your BBQ cravings. This recipe is great to keep in your pocket for quick weeknight meals.
COLESLAW OPTIONS
I love the combination of BBQ sauce and ranch dressing, so I made a quick “ranch salad” using bagged coleslaw (shredded cabbage, carrots, and thick ranch dressing). My classic creamy coleslaw recipe is a good alternative if you don’t like ranch dressing (many people aren’t). This is also great with barbecue!
TOPPING IDEAS FOR BBQ CHICKEN SANDWICH
Because I like my BBQ Chicken Sandwiches simple, but if you want to make it fancier, these are some things you can do on your sandwich.
- Pickles
- French Fried Onions
- Cheddar cheese
- Fresh red onions
- Avocado slices
- Bacon
- Pineapple slices
What kind of BBQ sauce is best?
This recipe can be made with any BBQ sauce. I don’t care too much about BBQ sauce, so I used the Kroger brand hickory-smoked BBQ sauce. Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauces are also my favourite, making them an affordable choice. You can also make your homemade BBQ sauce.
WHAT TO SERVE WITH BBQ Chicken SANDWICHES
I love sweet potatoes and BBQ, so I love Spicy Honey Sweet Potato Fries to serve with these BBQ Chicken Sandwiches. Thin cut Steak Fries with some Comeback sauce would be great on the side. Creamy Potato salad is a great side dish to accompany tangy BBQ sauce. Or, if you want something lighter and more vibrant to brighten up your plate, Cowboy Caviar might be the right choice! You can also try my favourite, Loaded Potatoes

INGREDIENTS
- 1 tsp smoked paprika ($0.10)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder ($0.05).
- 1/4 tsp salt ($0.02)
- 1/4 tsp pepper ($0.02)
- 1 lb. 1 lb.
- 1 Tbsp of cooking oil ($0.04)
- 1/4 cup BBQ sauce ($0.11)
- 7 oz. 7 oz.
- Two sliced green onions ($0.20).
- 1/4 cup ranch dressing ($0.37)
- 4 buns (2.49)
INSTRUCTIONS
- Combine the powder, salt, salt, and smoked paprika in a small bowl. To make the chicken thighs more sandwich-size, cut off any excess. You will need four pieces. The prepared spice mixture can be used to season both the chicken thighs and the breasts.
- Over medium heat, heat the cooking oil in a large skillet. Once the oil is hot, swirl the skillet to coat it. Cook the seasoned chicken for about 5-7 minutes or until the chicken thighs have browned and are cooked through.
- Take the chicken off the heat. Brush BBQ sauce on both sides.
- Combine the ranch dressing, coleslaw mix, and sliced green onions in a large bowl. Mix everything until well coated with dressing.
- For the sandwiches, place one slice of BBQ chicken on each bun. Top it with a generous amount of ranch slaw. Serve immediately
NOTES
* This is a bagged mixture of pre-shredded carrots and cabbage. I used half of the 14oz. Bag.
