This Sesame Ginger Dressing may be one of my favourite homemade dressings. It is sweet, salty and tangy with a great fresh ginger flavour. This dressing is one you will want to dip your spoon in. The kind of dressing makes you want to eat your salad to get it to go with the dressing. If you’re anything like me, you might drizzle it all over!
WHAT IS TAHINI?
Tahini can be described as a paste made from the ground sesame seed. It’s similar to peanut butter but with sesame seeds. It is a base ingredient for the dressing and cannot be substituted. Tahini adds sesame flavour and thickens the dressing. Tahini is usually found in grocery stores near peanut butter or the international aisle.
To Make Sesame Ginger Dressing
If you can shake a jar, you can make sesame ginger dressing! It’s ready to go with just a bit of prepping and two easy steps!
- Squeeze a lime, mince a clove of garlic and grate some ginger.
- Measure and add each ingredient (per the recipe below) into a jar or bottle and shake to blend.
Toasted sesame oil imparts a fabulous nutty taste, complemented by a spicy kick from the sriracha sauce. Lime juice is ideal, but you can use lemon instead if that’s all you have on hand.
You could use any red chilli sauce, but if you’ve never cooked with sriracha before, let this recipe introduce this fabulous Thai condiment! Made from chillies, garlic, sugar and vinegar, sriracha’s unique flavour has caused it to explode in popularity and become a staple in many kitchens worldwide.
CAN I SUBSTITUTE THE RICE VINEGAR
This recipe calls for rice vinegar to be used. Rice vinegar is a unique vinegar with a milder flavour and acidity than other vinegar bottles. This keeps it from being too strong. You might be able to use another type, but you would need to adjust the quantity or ratio of the other ingredients to compensate.
HOW LONG DID THIS SAME GINGER DRESSING LISTEN?
This dressing is made with fresh Ginger and garlic. I recommend keeping it in the fridge for at least 5 days. It tastes good, and you might finish it before it’s gone!
