BLACK BEAN BURGERS

Homemade black bean burgers are easy to make. Combine black beans with various flavorful ingredients like cumin, garlic, cilantro, chilli powder, and sriracha. You can make a delicious, rich, and freezer-friendly homemade black bean burger by adding a little egg and breadcrumbs to hold the pat together. I’m done with $8 burgers from restaurants!

HOW MANY BURGERS DOES THE RECIPE USE?

Six decent-sized black beans burgers can be made with this recipe. They can be frozen if you don’t want to eat them all in one day. Note: This recipe and the price breakdown are only for the burger. Everybody likes a different burger, so I didn’t include toppings or buns in the price breakdown.

Are THEY FRIENDLY WITH FREEZER?

Two of my patties were cooked and frozen because I cook only for myself. Wrap the patties in plastic wrap, then seal them in a freezer bag. You can cook the patty later by heating it in the microwave for 30 seconds. Then, heat the skillet according to the recipe.

What toppings are good on a black bean burger?

I chose to go with tomato, red onion, mustard and lettuce. But you can have so much fun with toppings. If you want to give it a Southwest twist, add chipotle mayo and cheddar cheese and jalapenos. You could also make a BBQ version using BBQ sauce and pepper jack cheese. It would be great to have avocado slices with these themes.

Are these BLACK BEAN BURGERS SPICY??

These black bean burgers are not spicy, despite having sriracha listed as an ingredient. The subtle flavour of the sriracha is just an additional layer. You can make your black bean burgers spicy by adding more sriracha or to your food processor while you are putting the ingredients together.

Do I have to use a food processor?

These black bean burgers can be made without a food processor, but they are much easier to make with one. You can make black bean burgers with a hand mixer. Mix the black beans with a fork or a potato masher. Then stir it all together.

CAN I BAKE THEM?

Baking black bean burgers is not recommended. This will result in a lack of browning, adding extra flavour to the burger.

CAN I SKIPP THE EGG?

These black bean burgers were made without an egg. Unfortunately, the burgers don’t stick together in the pan and turn into refried beans. It is possible to make a flaxseed replacement, but I haven’t tried it.
